STEAM: Magnets

This STEAM time will be all about magnets. I had so much fun gathering all the supplies to make this sensory experience fun for the kiddos. I used the ALSC blog for station ideas.

Station 1: Magnetic Science Reading Station

This station will have a variety of books about the science behind magnets.

Station 2: Iron Filing Art

I modified this station as ordering iron filings and placing them in a bag was time consuming for staff. We ordered these iron filing cases and they were pretty book and will work very well with little hands.

Station 3: Can You Find Out What Items are Magnetic?

We're modifying this station as having several bowls filled with magnetic and non magnetic items that kids can sort into piles. We will have questions for caretakers to ask their child posted on the station instruction signs.

Station 4: Magnetic Wand Hair Salon

THIS STATION IS GOING TO BE SO MUCH FUN! We also printed out faces on labels with different facial expressions instead of using just googly eyes.

Oh my! This STEAM was fun. I had a toddler that I had to bribe with dinosaur books because her parents were like (we have been in here the whole time we gotta go), but there daughter was adamant that she was not leaving. She wanted to play with EVERYTHING AGAIN. I was able to console her out of the room with the promise of dinosaur books, which I delivered upon. I had a few other drop-in families that had fun reading the books on magnetic science and doing the activities. The most popular book, I'm featuring below:

I had a caretaker doing the robot and squirrel voices. It was so awesome to listen and watch!
