Whimsy Recommends: Black History Day Read 11Read More
I've been super excited to start a book club for some time. Tom and I miss our Chicago friends and he always looks on fond memories of being part of a book club. I miss that my close friends are now back in Chicago and we would've been a GREAT book club (had we all lived there in our adult lives). Nevertheless, here we are with a book club in our current hometown.
The book we all chose to read to start off book club:
Clicking on the book will take you to the description on Goodreads. Our book club dynamic is so awesome because everyone is such a strong reader, and we were all in agreement about our feelings toward the writing around this book. I love intellectual discussions surrounding books and critical analysis of picking those books apart and everyone came prepared.
When we were planning book club we talked about aspects of book clubs we liked and didn't like. Ahhhh!!! The thing I love about my husband is his attention to detail. He stated that his book club created some amazing links between books and real life through creating a menu that links to the book. I love book discussions because I feel that is how I can connect to people and their experiences and thought process. In order to create a great ambiance for book club we incorporated our favorite book club details into our current book club! With the help of our friends in said book club----we plotted out our first menu!
Everyone will be gathering their own questions or (in my current state) taking them from my library's website. Book club was fantastic! We did talk about the book at length for forty-five minutes and there were some great researched and thought out comments and discussions. I left with a sense of community and connection with the people in the room. Everyone did a great job of giving their input, plotting out our next book and ultimately, having fun with it. Cheers to a great fall book club start!
